Inspiration: Lucia Luis and the Wolf

This disturbing yet beautiful Chilean animation shorts caught my eye. Love the combination of the quirky Svankmajer-esq stop motion animation and the gorgeous charcoal drawings that somehow remind me of Blu's animated Graffiti pieces. 

And of course there's the Spanish narration That's creepy as hell...

The 3 directors are now working on a feature film called "La Casa Lobo" (The Wolf House) - "A confused and perverted fairytale That's loosely inspired by the story “Beauty and the Beast”", according to the synopsis.

Inspiration: William Kentridge

אני מוקסמת מהיכולת של וויליאם קנטרידג' לשלב בין ציור, רישום, אנימציה, פיסול, תיאטרון ווידיאו. התערוכה "חמישה נושאים", המתמקדת בתמות שונות ביצירותיו של האמן הדרום אפריקאי, נאצרה תוך שיתוף פעולה של MoMA סן פרנסיסקו ומוזיאון נורטון בפלורידה. לאחר נדודים בעולם היא הגיעה גם למוזיאון ישראל.

סרטי האנימציה שבתערוכה סובבים סביב הדמויות סוהו ופליקס, שני האלטר אגואים של האמן,  ועשויים בטכניקה של ציור ומחיקה מחדש. אהבתי במיוחד את History of the main complaint שמציג גבר על ערש דווי הנזכר באירועים מתקופת האפרטהייד. הפעולות הרפואיות שהוא עובר מעלות באוב אקטים של אלימות גזענית. אחד האימאג'ים החזקים בסרט הוא סריקת MRI  של מוח שהופכת לזירה של התרחשות וזכרונות. באתר ה-MOMA  הניו יורקי בו הוצגה את התערוכה בתחילת 2010 יצרו מסע אינטראקטיבי בו אפשר לראות קטעים מהסרט ומשאר העבודות.

בנוסף לסדרת סוהו ופליקס באנימצית צבעי הפחם הקודרת מוצגים בתערוכה גם סרטים בטכניקת cut out. אחד החדרים המקסימים בתערוכה הוא החדר בו מוצג סרטון המחווה של "מסע אל הירח של ז'ורז' מילייה, שמצליח להחזיר את האנימציה למקום נאיבי ומשועשע.

ובנימה אופטימית זאת, יאללה לעבודה. לאחר תקופונת בה נטשתי את העבודה על "ענפים שבורים" הגיע הזמן לחזור לסרט במלוא המרץ.

Note to myself:

לצד סצינות של התבוננות כבדת ראש נחמד גם להתקל בקצת נאיביות ושעשועים.

I'm enchanted by William Kentridge's work. His projects, which incorporate drawing, painting, animation, sculpture, theatre and video, are a real source of  inspiration. His exhibition "Five Themes" that was curated by the San Francisco MoMA together with the Norton Museum of Art travelled the world and is now showing in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.

One of the five themes in the exhibition is Soho and Felix, Kentridge's two alter egos, who are in the focus of nine animated shorts. Kentridge's animation technique of drawing and erasing charcoal images is used to describe the apartheid era in South Africa. The constant erasing and redrawing is a beautiful metaphor for remembrance. One of my favorite shorts is History of the Main Complaint, which shows a man on his death bed reminiscing events from the apartheid.

My grandmother's home town Sinewca was surrounded by forests.

שינייבקה, עיירת הולדתה של סבתי, הייתה מוקפת ביערות. 

The Gelfand Children

My grandmother (Michal) and her siblings: Rivka, Dvora, Naftali and Michal.
Michal was the only one who was accepted to a boarding school in Israel. Dvora was too old, and Rivka and Naftali were too young. At the age of 14 she travelled there by herself while the others stayed in Poland.

ילדי משפחת גלפנד:  מיכל (סבתי), נפתלי, דבורה וריבקה.

מיכל הייתה היחידה במשפחה שהתקבלה לפנימית "בן שמן". דבורה, אחותה הגדולה הייתה מבוגרת מידיי, וריבקה ונפתלי היו צעירים מידיי. היא נסעה לישראל בגיל 14 והם נשארו בפולין.

A group of "Gordonia" kids who left their families in Europe and came to Israel to join "Ben Shemen" boarding school.

My grandmother is the girl in the middle, leaning on the life preserver ring. Polonia is the name of the ship.

קבוצת הנוער של תנועת "גורדוניה" בתצלום משותף על האוניה "פולוניה" בדרך לארץ ישראל. כולם עזבו את משפחותיהם באירופה ונסעו להגשים את החזון הציוני בפנימית "בן שמן". מיכל היא הנערה עם הבארט והצמות שנשענת על גלגל ההצלה במרכז.

רוב האנשים בעיירה היו יהודים, ולדברי סבתא היא הייתה מוקפת כפרים "של הגויים".

Sinewca was my grandmother's home town:  a small Jewish Shtetl in Poland, situated next to the railway between Warsaw and Moscow.

שינייבקה היא עיירת הולדתה של סבתי בפולין. העיירה ישבה על ציר דרכים חשוב בין מוסקבה לבין וורשה ובמרכזה עברה מסילת ברזל.
